AtGuard/NIS Creating/Modifying Rules

Elements of a Firewall Rule

Computers (Remote/Local Address)

rules creation computersSpecifies the computers and network adapters to which this rule applies.

The computers that you specify are other computers with which you want to control communications with your computer.

Any computer:
The rule applies to all computers.

Only computers specified below:
The rule applies to all computers, sites, and domains listed.

Adapters:
The rule applies to a specific network adapter in your computer. The IP address of the network adapter to which the rule should apply is specified.

rules creation adaptersThis is useful if your computer has more than one IP address. If, for example, your computer has a connection to a local network as well as a connection to the Internet, then it probably has two IP addresses.

This setting lets you apply rules to one of your computer's IP addresses. For example, if your computer is connected to a home network and to the Internet, you might want to set up a rule that permits file sharing on the home network, while another rule blocks file sharing over the Internet.

If your local network uses DHCP so that your computer might get a different IP address each time that it starts, enter a network address using an IP address and a subnet mask that identifies all of the possible IP addresses that your computer might use. See your system administrator for the appropriate values.
